Auto Immune Disease - Nature or Nuture is the title of a 'study day' being organised by the Northern Branch of the Bearded Collie Club, to be held at Leeds University on Saturday October 17th.
Open to all, the programme aims to build on the exisitng knowledge of all breeders and dog owners, particularly in relation to the principle factors important for consideration when planning breeding programmes.
Starting at 10am, the day will open with an explaination of the physiology of the healthy immune system and what happens when things go wrong, by veterianarian Brendan Clarke. Other speakers will include Jo Tucker, 'who has steered and supported so many through a newly diagnosed auto immune situation', Dr Andrea Short from Manchester University, 'who has been collecting data on the possible causes of Addisons Disease in Bearded Collies', and animal scientist Maud Hawkes BSc (Hons) AS 'who will discuss the genetic influences'.
